BART’s opening day of revenue passenger service - September 11, 1972 - introduced the A and B Cars to the San Francisco Bay Area. Manufactured by the aerospace company Rohr in Chula Vista, CA in the late 1960s, the interiors of the original BART cars expressed that classic 1960s aesthetic with faux wood paneling and sponge-padded wool carpet.
B Cars can only operate in the middle of a train consist; they do not have a cab, nor do they control the operation of the train.
